Amon Amarth ist eine schwedische Melodic-Death-Metal-Band, die 1992 gegründet wurde. Sie erhielten ihren Namen vom Sindarin-Namen von Mount Doom in J.R.R. Tolkiens Mittelerde und beziehen ihre Inspiration aus der Vikinga mythology und Geschichte, wodurch sie als "Viking Metal" bekannt sind. Die Band besteht aus Leadsänger Olavi Mikkonen, Sänger Johan Hegg, Bassist Ted Lundström, Rhythmusgitarrist Johan Söderberg und Schlagzeuger Jocke Wallgren. Amon Amarth hat 12 Studioalben, ein Sammelalbum, eine EP, ein Videoalbum und zehn Musikvideos veröffentlicht. Ihr Debütalbum "Once Sent from the Golden Hall" erschien 1998, gefolgt von einer Serie erfolgreicher Veröffentlichungen, darunter das Durchbruch-Album "Twilight of the Thunder God", das bei den schwedischen Albumcharts auf Platz 10 und bei den US-Billboard-Charts 200 auf Platz 50 debütierte.
