Amon Amarth is een Zweeds melodisch death metalband gevormd in 1992. Hun naam ontleent aan de Sindarijnse naam van Mount Doom uit J.R.R. Tolkiens Midden-aarde, waarop de band inspiratie haalt uit Viking-mythologie en geschiedenis, waardoor ze het label "Viking metal" kregen.
