Machine Head is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California, formed in 1991 by vocalist/guitarist Robb Flynn. With a career spanning over three decades, the band has been a driving force in the new wave of American heavy metal. Initially, Machine Head's aggressive musicianship earned it a strong following in Europe with its first four albums, but it wasn't until later releases that the band found success in the United States. The band drew controversy with its fourth album, Supercharger (2001), which was released shortly after the September 11 attacks and led to the removal of its single "Crashing Around You" from all media outlets. Despite the backlash, Machine Head persevered, experimenting with elements of groove metal and nu metal before settling into a more traditional thrash metal sound with longer songs. With current members including Flynn, Jared MacEachern, Matt Alston, and Reece Scruggs, Machine Head continues to push boundaries and entertain fans worldwide.
