Marissa Nadler

Marissa Nadler is an American singer-songwriter born on April 5, 1981. With a career spanning over two decades, she has been active since 2000. Her music genre-defying style blends traditional folk, Gothic Americana, and dreamy pop into an original framework. Her sound is rooted in old-school country and folk but incorporates elements of experimental and black metal, earning her the label "dream folk" from some critics. Nadler's powerful mezzo-soprano vocals have garnered widespread acclaim for their textured, angelic quality, with just a hint of pain captured within her iridescent falsetto. Her voice has been described as "one you would follow straight into Hades" by Pitchfork and "an intoxicating soprano drenched in gauzy reverb that hits bell-clear heights, lingers, and tapers off like rings of smoke" by The Boston Globe.
