System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band from Glendale, California, formed in February 1995. The band currently consists of Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (vocals, guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass, backing vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). With a genre-bending sound that blends alternative metal, alternative rock, nu metal, heavy metal, and hard rock, the band has achieved commercial success with five studio albums, three of which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Throughout their career, System of a Down has been nominated for four Grammy Awards, including Best Hard Rock Performance of 2006, which they won for their song "B.Y.O.B.". The group took a hiatus in August 2006 before reuniting in November 2010 and embarking on a three-year tour.
