The Pharcyde

The Pharcyde

The Pharcyde is an American hip-hop group formed in South Central Los Angeles in 1991. The original four members are Imani, Slimkid3, Bootie Brown, and Fatlip, with DJ Mark Luv initially handling duties before being replaced by J-Swift and later J Dilla. Their debut album Bizarre Ride Ii the Pharcyde (1992) was highly acclaimed, featuring the hit single "Passin' Me By," and has been cited as one of the greatest albums in alternative hip-hop. The group's second studio album Labcabincalifornia (1995) saw further commercial success with crossover hits "Drop" and "Runnin'," although it received mixed initial reviews. Following Fatlip's departure, Imani and Bootie Brown continued to release music, including Plain Rap (2000) and Humboldt Beginnings (2004). The group has since continued to tour, release singles, and collaborate on tracks, with a temporary reunion in 2008 for the Rock the Bells festival.
